Day 1 - CHENGDU ARRIVAL
Fly from Australia into Mainland China. Domestic transfer to Chengdu. Upon arrival at the Chengdu International Airport you will be greeted by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel. The remaining time of the day is free for your individual activities. Get a good night’s sleep in your hotel ahead of your journey tomorrow.
Optional Activities - Visit the Panda Sanctuary & Hot Pot Dinner
Famous for its breeding program and home of the Giant Pandas and their gorgeous cousins, the Red Pandas, tour the Chengdu Panda Sanctuary. Price includes transport to and from the sanctuary, entrance fee, traditional Sichuan hotpot dinner and English-speaking guide.
Day 2 - CHENGDU- YICHANG
Domestic transfer from Chengdu to Yichang. Upon arrival, you will board the Yangtze River Cruise ship and begin your memorable 4-night cruise down the Yangtze River. (Breakfast)
Day 3 - YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE - THREE GORGES DAM
Start the morning with a Tai Chi lesson on board in the presence of the beautiful Three Gorges Dam. Spend your day out on an optional excursion or relax on board the cruise ship. This evening you will return to the ship and attend the Captain’s Welcome Banquet and enjoy the evening entertainment with a Chinese dancing ball. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Optional Activity - Three Gorges Dam Site
The Three Gorges Dam Site is one of the largest construction projects undertaken by mankind and is the biggest hydropower project in the world.
Optional Activity - Tribe of the Three Gorges
You may also want to visit the Tribe of the Three Gorges, the only large scenic spot that has not been influenced by the Three Gorges Dam project, which showcases the abundant Ba Culture and Shu Culture.
Day 4 - YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE - LESSER THREE GORGES
Today, you may choose to embark on the exciting optional excursions or opt for a leisure day on board the ship. The afternoon will see you continuing to cruise into the western section of Xiling Gorge. (Breakfast, lunch dinner)
Optional Activity - Lesser Three Gorges
Explore the Lesser Three Gorges, a shining pearl hidden in remote mountains. You will leave your cruise ship and board smaller vessels to sail through the narrower and breathtaking Lesser Three Gorges region, lined by sheer cliffs and mountains. Along the Yangtze River, you will appreciate the beauty of the Qutang Gorge and Wu Gorge and visit the ancient plank road, Mengliang Stairway and the Hanging Coffins.
Optional Activity - White Emperor City
You may also choose the optional excursion to visit the White Emperor City, an ancient temple that is located atop Baidi Mountain on the northern bank of the Yangtze River in Fengjie County.
Day 5 - YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE - FENGDU GHOST CITY
Today you will pass through the mountains of Eastern Sichuan. Participate in the optional excursion or relax by the pool, pamper yourself with a massage and make the most of the last full day on your ship. Tonight, enjoy the farewell dinner and pack your bags in preparation for disembarking tomorrow. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner)
Optional Activity– Fengdu Ghost City
Today’s optional excursion is the Fengdu Ghost City to see why it’s regarded as the “City of Ghosts.” The temples built on Ming Mountain depict the punish instruments and demon paintings, demonstrating the Chinese people’s imagination of hell.
Day 6 – CHONGQING - BEIJING
Today you will be transferred to Beijing. You will then set out with your trip leader to discover Beijing’s imperial treasures. Stand in Tiananmen Square, one of the largest and grandest public plazas in the world. Enter the imposing walls of the Forbidden City, once the exclusive domain of the Ming Dynasty, for an extensive tour through this vast complex. Afterwards, visit the Silk Factory Outlet to learn about silk, the very trade item that started the famous Silk Road, and its delicate manufacturing process. (Breakfast, dinner)
**Optional Activity – Legend of Kung Fu Show or Acrobatics Show
A thrilling modern day theatrical production, bringing together traditional Chinese martial arts and a vibrant show atmosphere. Sit back relax & enjoy the amazing acrobatics on show!
Day 7 – BEIJING, TIANANMEN SQUARE, FORBIDDEN CITY
You will set out with your trip leader to discover Beijing’s imperial treasures. Stand in Tiananmen Square, one of the largest and grandest public plazas in the world. **Optional Activity – Hutong Rickshaw Tour with meal
In the modern city of Beijing lies a place where you can still see the authentic old Beijing. The place is known as Shichahai Area where most local residents still live in traditional courtyard-styled houses dotted along old hutongs. You will go around hutongs by richshaw visiting local families, eat home cooked lunch, having an authentic picture of Beijing.
Day 8 – BEIJING, THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA, 2008 OLYMPIC GAMES SITES
Travel into the rugged mountain landscapes north of the city to the magnificent Great Wall of China. Once on top of this ancient defensive structure, you’ll find that some sections are quite steep, but the views are magnificent and the experience is truly unforgettable. You will then learn about Jade, China’s most precious stone, and its manufacturing process at the largest Jade factory in Beijing. Furthermore, you will visit the 2008 Olympic Games Sites including the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube. Afterwards you will head back to the city to enjoy an oriental foot massage before returning to the hotel. (Breakfast, lunch)
Day 9 – BEIJING, TEMPLE OF HEAVEN
Start your day with a morning Tai Chi practice in the Temple of Heaven. Tai Chi is an internal martial art system which places emphasis on the development and control of Chi (consciousness) energy within the body. Afterwards, you will experience a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony while sampling China’s locally favoured brews at a Tea House. . (Breakfast, lunch)
**Optional Activity – Optional Activity – Beijing Zoo & Flea Market
Visit the Beijing Zoo – famous for its collection of rare and unique animals in China, including its resident Giant Pandas.
**Optional Activity – Summer Palace visit
The Summer Palace northwest of Beijing is said to be the best-preserved imperial garden in the world, and the largest of its kind still in existence in China. Just wandering around enjoying the different buildings and courtyards, or just taking in the views from one of the many vantage points is a pleasure.
Day 10 – BEIJING - AUSTRALIA
Depart Beijing today you will be transferred to the Beijing international airport for your flight home. If time permits, before heading to the airport, you may choose to explore the city of Beijing at your own pace.
